The history of the Curriculum Theologiae server goes back to the worldwide survey among leading philosophers and theologians that Dr. Raùl Fornet-Betancourt, the former colleague of the Institute of Missiology (MWI), carried out at the end of the last century.* The subject of the survey was the duties and challenges of philosophy and theology curricula in the 21st century. The many responses led to a research project that concluded in a series of intercontinental workshops. A central question was how theology should be taught nowadays for it to be able to face the challenges due to globalization, international exchange, and economic and social development.
In 2011, on occasion of the 40th anniversary of the MWI and the conference on the subject held in Bonn, the Curriculum Theologiae server was officially launched.
The goal of the server is to be a forum for development of theological and philosophical curricula worldwide, to strengthen and support local seminaries, universities, and theological teaching institutes especially in Africa and Asia and make their theologies more visible to the international scholarly community.
